Frequently Asked Questions

The recovery is yours to shape — and yes, you probably have questions. Here are the answers we already have. The rest, we'll figure out together.

📅 Release & Access
When does Galaxy Online — A New Beginning release?
Fall/Winter 2026.
Will there be a beta or playtest?
Yes — most likely as Early Access on Steam.
How do I sign up?
Drop your callsign on the Roster signup for a chance to get an early invite.
💻 Platforms & Tech
What platforms can I play on?
Browser-based — runs on PC, Mac, mobile, and tablet. Also available on Steam, launching the same game directly from your library. Latest Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Firefox supported in browser.
Do I need to install anything?
For browser play, no — open the URL, sign in, play. For Steam, install the small launcher from your library. Either way, your progress syncs across all your devices.
🎮 Gameplay
Is it real-time or turn-based?
The galaxy is real-time — exploration, mining, trade, hyperjump, colony growth, factions, all live and persistent. Combat is auto-resolved via our Combat Playback System (CPS): you design your fleet, fit components, and configure your commander's tactics; when ships engage, the CPS simulates the action-by-action exchange and renders a replay you can watch and analyze. The strategy happens in the preparation, not in mid-fight micromanagement.
What languages are supported?
English and German at launch — full parity across UI, lore, missions, and chat.
Is there PvP?
Yes, in low- and mid-security space. High-security space is PvP-locked — your starter colonies and home sectors are safe.
Are there guilds or alliances?
Yes — federations are part of the design, lighting up at launch.
💰 Business Model
Is it free to play?
Yes — free to play with optional premium. No pay-to-win.
Are there microtransactions?
No loot boxes, no XP boosters, no buying power. The store will sell exactly one thing: the Commission Charter. A charter redeems for either a stretch of time-based premium status — raising caps while it runs (never permanently), including a higher Imperial Commission cap for more colonial infrastructure — or for a cosmetic ship livery. And charters are tradeable in-game: buy one with money and use it or sell it to another player for credits, or earn credits by playing and buy one on the market. Time-savers (rushing a build or a repair) are ordinary in-game actions paid with in-game credits — not store items. Nothing sold grants stats, exclusive items, or anything you can't earn in-game.
Will there be a subscription?
No mandatory one, ever. The Commission Charter works like a flexible, optional subscription — time-based premium status you can pay for with real money or buy from other players for in-game credits.
🛸 Origins
Is this the same game as Galaxy Online — The Tournament (2011)?
No. We reuse the same battle mechanics from the 2011 Tournament game, but evolve them into a full space MMO — new story, new setting, new factions, new world, new economy. This game is not affiliated with the old Galaxy Online from IGG.
Will my old 2011 account carry over?
No — the original platform shut down years ago. Fresh start for everyone.
